Funicularity of conics

چکیده
Funicular structures can resist a given load with pure axial forces and therefore tend to use material very efficiently. One main challenge in their design is form finding, which often requires advanced numerical methods. In this article, we show analytically that common family of curves, conics, funicular for particular case: uniform radial emanating from focus. The result generalization the well-known funicularity parabolas arcs circles, respectively, under vertical constant normal pressure. It be used self-stressed by hand without need calculations. Portions conics combined obtain original shapes.

The Conics of Ludwig Kiepert:
If a visitor from Mars desired to leam the geometry of the triangle but could stay in the earth' s relatively dense atmosphere only long enough for a single lesson, earthling mathematicians would, no doubt, be hard-pressed to meet this request. In this paper, we believe that we have an optimum solution to the problem. The Kiepert conics, though seemingly unknown today, constitute a significant ...
متن کاملDiscrete Conics
In this paper, we introduce discrete conics, polygonal analogues of conics. We show that discrete conics satisfy a number of nice properties analogous to those of conics, and arise naturally from several constructions, including the discrete negative pedal construction and an action of a group acting on a focus-sharing pencil of conics.
متن کاملRectifiable Pencils of Conics
We describe analytic pencils of conics passing through the origin in C that can be mapped to straight lines locally near the origin by an analytic diffeomorphism. Under a minor non-degeneracy assumption, we prove that in a pencil with this property, almost all conics have 3 points of tangency with the same algebraic curve of class 3 (i. e. a curve projectively dual to a cubic). 2000 Math.
